The distance education system (PJJ), which is perceived as a 21st century innovation, is an education system that has a broad reach, across space, time, and socioeconomics. The PJJ system opens access to education for anyone, anywhere and anytime. With these characteristics, the PJJ system can be used as a solution to various educational problems, especially those related to equity and democratization of education, as well as expanding access to quality education to all levels of society, which contributes to an increase in the Gross Enrollment Rate (GER) of higher education.
Through various legal instruments that have been issued by the government, among others, the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 51 of 2018 concerning the Establishment, Amendment, Dissolution of State Universities, and the Establishment, Amendment, Revocation of Private Higher Education Permits, Ministerial Regulations Education and Culture No. 109 of 2013 concerning the Implementation of Distance Education in Higher Education, Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System, Government Regulation Number 17 of 2010 concerning Management and Implementation of Education which was later amended by Government Regulation Number 66 of 2010, and Law No. Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education, the PJJ system has become an integral part of the world of education in Indonesia, and become an option for the community to gain access to education. This situation opens opportunities and opportunities for various higher education institutions to actively participate in distance education
Telkom University as a higher education institution that is determined to synergize with the country in increasing the GER for Higher Education through the implementation of distance education for the Informatics Study Program of the Undergraduate Program which has obtained an operational permit in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Number 472/KPT/I/ 2019.
Distance Education (PJJ) is a teaching and learning process that is done remotely through the use of various communication media. PJJ Study Program is a Study Program held in the form of PJJ at a university that has an establishment permit. (Menristekdikti Regulation No. 51 of 2018)
The implementation of the PJJ Informatics Study Program is separate from the regular Informatics study program. However, the PJJ Informatics study program has the same curriculum and learning achievements as the regular Informatics Study Program, which differentiates the learning method.
In organizing PJJ, Telkom University provides a Distance Learning Center (PBJJ) which is currently available and has received a permit in the city of Makassar. PBJJ is a functional unit under the management of tertiary institutions that functions to provide service support to meet the needs of learning, practice, practicum, supervised exams, and/or tutorials for students who are geographically easily accessible by students.
